Happy New Year & Resolution - 5 Piece French Wardrobe Challenge!

Happy New Year, everyone!

Who's got their resolutions sorted? (Or even started?)

I've decided that this year I want to join in with blogger afterDRK on her '5 Piece French Wardrobe' challenge. Head on over to Sabrina's post for a more in-depth explanation, but basically I want to run my 2014 wardrobe with the motto, "quality over quantity" in mind.

I always buy too much and it's very easy to find yourself spending money here and there on 'trend' items which are all over the Highstreet. I'm sick of buying things that I only wear once or twice (or even things that just sit in my wardrobe unworn) so I think that by using the '5 Piece French Wardrobe' ideology, I will make wiser choices on items that I actually REALLY want and would REALLY wear. This means I can spend a little bit more money on fewer items which will last me a lot longer than a few tops from Primark or Topshop for example.

So what is the '5 Piece French Wardrobe'? Put simply, you allow yourself to purchase 5 key items per season. There are two seasons in fashion Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter so that means you can buy 10 pieces over the year.

It's pretty personal and flexible as you can set your own rules as to what does and doesn't count as one of your pieces. For example, necessities such as underwear and basic tops don't need to count as one of your 5 items. But, keeping this in mind, anything that may cost a little bit more than average may have reason to be classed as one of your 5 choices.

I have a couple of items in mind already, however, I'm sure I'll update you once I've 100% set my mind on something to take the 1st spot on the list. I'm hoping it will make my shopping habit a lot more exciting as I won't be allowing myself to indulge ALL of the time like I have been doing this past year. I will be able to refresh my wardrobe - clear out the old, make some room. And in turn I will hopefully make use of my purchases rather than 75% of my wardrobe being crammed full with unworn clothes!

At the moment I'm thinking generally of my 5 picks to consist of:

1. Black leather boots.
2. Black simple handbag.
3. Perfect leather jacket.
4. Chunky knit jumper.
5. Free spot.

Let me know if you think this is a good idea and if you think you would benefit from joining in with this challenge.

I hope you all saw the New Year in, in the best way possible - whatever that may be for you.
I spent it with my other half and a few friends, ate, drank (only a little!) and played silly board games.

As much as I should try to remain positive, good riddance to 2013, I say, as it wasn't the best of years for myself and my family. Fingers crossed for a better 2014!

For New Year's Eve I wore:
Aldo 'Frited' pointed leather heels
Topshop leather look joggers
River Island slogan tshirt
Zara wool and leather coat
Michael Kors 'Bedford' cross body bag

  1. I think it's a great idea. Last year I made the decision to buy quality over quantity too but I really like this idea. Maybe I can justify a new handbag if I put it as one of my 5. I already got black leather boots though so I'm down to 4 already. Or maybe I don't have to have them in my 5 as bought them with Christmas money. Oooo exciting choosing! Xxx
